Bifocal Biology: The Link between Virtual and Real Experiments
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we describe a pilot study of an approach to STEM inquiry learning called Bifocal Modelling (Blikstein, 2010) with a group of high school students studying bacterial growth. Students grew and measured real bacteria, and then collaboratively designed a conceptual agent-based model of bacteria. Observations and student notes suggest that the activity helped students demonstrate their knowledge of bacterial growth by formalizing it from a list of unorganized facts into an accurate pseudo-computational model. In the process of completing their task, they also critically reflected on the assumptions built into the modelling activity itself, and demonstrated familiarity with some core principles of complex systems.

Ethical Theory and Educational Effectiveness
The missing link in the theories of normative ethics is the study of the extent of their real impact on the moral education of individuals and societies. Existing moral theories can be divided into act-driven theories, agent-driven theories, and combined and bifocal theories. Each of these theories has shortcomings in relation to the issue of moral education, some of which, like the act-driven ...
متن کاملThirdspace: The Trialectics of the Real, Virtual and Blended Spaces
This article aims to redefine the concept of Thirdspace and make a trilateral relationship between the three concepts of real space, virtual space and the user. To do so, not only the concept of Thirdspace has to be redefined, but also a new understanding of virtual space as a relatively independent space is required. This three-sided relation requires a new understanding of the relationship be...

Utilization of the virtual class room as a laboratory experimentation for teaching and learning has increased significantly in recent years as development tools for web based applications have become easier to use and computers have become more ca...
متن کاملInvestigating the efficacy of brain training by using virtual reality and real shooting on the shooting skills of students of a military university
Background and Aim: High quality, fast-paced and cost-effective training of novice military personnel is a major concern in most armed forces around the world. Hence, implementing psycho-technological findings is important in the armed forces. This study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy of brain-training (neurofeedback) and virtual-reality training through the use of actual and vir...

1. HUMANS, ROBOTS, AND AGENTS Multi-agent simulation is a powerful technique used to encode real-world simple rules in virtual agents and then simulate their interactions [1]. Participatory simulations are similar to multiagent simulation except individuals play the role of virtual agents, sometimes in combination with these virtual agents [2]. Finally, the bifocal modeling framework has enable...
